Competency Assessment Directions This Competency Assessment assesses the following learning competency: GB512-1: Prepare documents using industry conventions and Standard English mechanics. Write a 350–500 word persuasive letter in a Microsoft Word® document to an editor or author of your choice regarding your opinion of a piece of writing you have read in a business or professional magazine of your choice. Remember to use conciseness, emphasis, organization, correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation in your writing and include in-text citations and references in APA 6th edition format and style. Checklist: • Select an article that you have read in a business or professional magazine of your choice. • Write a 350–500 word persuasive letter concerning your opinion on the selected written article to the editor or author. • Provide a clearly established and sustained viewpoint and purpose. • Explain what you would change and why. • Justify your opinion regarding the article. • Be concise, emphasize important points, and organize your response. • Use correct Standard English, grammar, spelling, and punctuation. • Use APA 6th edition for the format and citation style (use one short in-text citation), and include a reference for the article citation you chose on an additional reference page. Access the rubric If work submitted for this competency assessment does not meet the minimum submission requirements found in the Checklist, it will be returned without being scored.
